First Aid
First Aid Event
The first aid event challenges the scouts with their first class first aid skills.  The event is a practical one in which the scouts are presented with a "real life" first aid scenario.  The scouts are judged on how they react to the situation, how they treat the victim and how they work together as a team.

First Class First Aid Requirements:
  • Show first aid for the following:
    • Simple cuts and scratches
    • Blisters on the hand and foot
    • Minor burns or scalds (first degree)
    • Bites and stings of insects and ticks
    • Poisonous snakebite
    • Nosebleed
    • Frostbite and sunburn
  • Prepare a personal first aid kit to take with you on a hike.
  • Demonstrate first aid for the following:
    • Object in the eye
    • Bite of a suspected rabid animal
    • Puncture wounds from a splinter, nail, and fishhook
    • Serious burns (second degree)
    • Heat exhaustion
    • Shock
    • Heatstroke, dehydration, hypothermia, and hyperventilation
  • Tell the five most common signs of a heart attack. Explain the steps (procedures) in cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR).
